Review of «¿Qué se fizo aquel trobar?»: la poesía de cancionero ayer y hoy

Abstract

The monograph, ¿Qué se fizo aquel trobar?: La poesía de cancionero ayer y hoy (ed. Cleofé Tato, A Coruña, Servizo de Publicacións, Universidade da Coruña, 2023) offers an overview of the current state of cancionero studies, through a selection of the presentations made at Convivio’s 7th International Congress, successfully held in A Coruña in November 2021, despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic. The quality and variety of the studies that comprise this monograph prove the continued vitality of this philological field, a fact that leads the editor to assert in the introductory pages that cancionero poetry is still alive today. From the articles in this volume, the topics addressed at the academic meeting show that important advances have been made in Occitan and Galician-Portuguese troubadour poetry, areas that have attracted attention since the beginning of cancionero studies; on the other hand, the research projects of the congress also warn of the existence of fields that require further work, such as “late medieval” poetry, which aroused critical interest at the end of the 20th century. Among the positive results of the congress, it is worth highlighting the fact that new researchers have joined the discipline of cancionero study, a circumstance that augurs a long future for Convivio.
